HIGH QUALITY PERMIAN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Students deserve a high quality education that unlocks their potential and empowers them to succeed. Yet, the Permian Basin is missing out on key high-quality education opportunities that exist in other parts of the state. Less than half of students 3rd – 8th grade read at grade level while only one third meet math standards. We know the tools necessary to improve education, but we need to make sure that our schools use them so that all students in the Permian have access to a high quality education.
By retaining high quality teachers, expanding access to high quality public school options, opening career pathway programs, providing literacy support, and ensuring safe learning environments, we can create a future where every student and community across the Permian Basin has the opportunity to thrive.
Changing the status quo to give students the education they deserve starts with empowering families and community members to take charge of their children’s education and hold schools accountable when they don’t meet expectations.

Expand High Quality Public School Options
Every student and every community in the Permian is unique. Access to a variety of high-quality public school models and leadership styles are crucial to our students and communities.
- Expand access to high quality public schools through partnerships with charter schools that can meet the diverse needs of students and communities
- Examine and adopt high-quality school models that accelerate student learning including:
- CTE (Career Technical Education)
- STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math)
- Collegiate
- IB (International Baccalaureate)
- Develop and implement a specific, credible turnaround plan for every D- and F- rated failing school
Improve Instructional Leadership and Curriculum
Better schools start with our teachers. We must focus on recruiting, developing and retaining high-quality teachers and leaders to ensure our schools are providing the instruction and skills students need to succeed.
- Provide high-quality and relevant professional development opportunities
- Reward top-performing educators and leaders by expanding the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) and Principal Incentive Allotment Programs (PIA)

Expand Access to Relevant College and Career Pathways
Current career and college programming does not properly prepare students for their future. By expanding career technical education, business partnerships, and university programs that focus on providing broad skills, early career path exposure, and clear pathways to employment, students will graduate ready to succeed in the high-wage, high-skill careers here in the Permian Basin.
- Establish CTE programming and work based learning partnerships with businesses to give students early exposure to relevant industries
- Work with universities to allow students to begin 2- and 4-year degree pathways in highschool
- Increase cross-district collaboration to expand college and career pathways, especially in more remote and smaller districts
- Adopt or emulate high quality curriculums and best practices from school operators with a proven history of success in improving student outcomes and performance.
Develop policies to create safe learning environments for students and teachers
Safe and healthy learning environments are crucial to student success. Ensuring students and educators have access to healthy environments will enable them to reach their full potential.
- Create policies that foster healthy, productive learning environments and support students’ personal development.
- Ensure school facilities are equipped with proper monitoring, access control, and emergency preparedness to keep students and staff safe.
- Create a better learning environment for all through an enhanced focus on management of and accountability for both students and teachers.

Increase Accountability through Parent and Community Engagement
We need transparency and accountability for parents and the community around student outcomes, school performance, and school leadership to ensure schools improve.
- Inform families and communities about the current state of schools and solutions
- Elect school board members who are committed to transparency and accountability around school performance, student outcomes, and leadership quality
